MEXICAN FOLK AND INDIGENOUS ART SHOW

The Fair is a nonprofit organization established in Mexico and the United States, which takes place every year an exhibition of Mexican folk art in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. This year the Fair celebrate its 15th anniversary promoting the folk art.

The popular art in Mexico is in danger of disappearing, because the artists do not have many places to sell their crafts. The Fair offers a sales channel at no cost to them, and for many of them the sales made during the fair represent a large portion of their annual income.

Organized by an army of volunteers, artists do not pay any fee or percentage of their sales.

Artists are invited from all corners of Mexico based on the following criteria:

  • Quality of their work,
  • Has their art been passed down generation to generation,
  • Does the artist use “natural” pigments/materials as was done in the past, or
  • Are they an “undiscovered” artist who is worthy of recognition for his/her work.
  • All art must be made totally handmade by the artist.

They are staying in homes in the area, they are given food and are provided with transportation costs. Participating in the fair offers a unique experience to the community. Each year intercultural ties between families from diverse backgrounds are created.

Our mission is to preserve and promote Mexican crafts and folk art, its form of production, providing artisans with a sales channel to galleries, collectors and museums. Save the date and don´t miss this Feria that is surrounding by the magical town and lake of Chapala -Mexico’s largest freshwater lake- Chapala has many attractions to see besides the Feria and food options for every taste so this is a good excuse to visit Chapala.

“This is the most incredible folk & indigenous art show
in Mexico – 40 minutes south of Mexico’s 2nd largest city, Guadalajara. Buyers and collectors come to the Feria
from around the world to purchase the highest quality
Mexican art at the best prices available.”
